Please note that you don't necessarily need to produce a panelised board if you don't need to.
Here are a few examples of what you should consider when making a circuit board panel:
1. Expanding product design on a limited budget
Your budget plays a key role in the quality of the PCB you get. If the budget is not sufficient, it is certain that the circuit may not achieve the desired results.
In this case, it makes sense to find a better way to get what you want, even on a limited budget. Fortunately, making a PCB board is one of the options on the table. It is an effective way to combine multiple PCBs or allow for pooling/assembly into a single package.
2. Greater stability
Making PCB panels also helps to stabilise the circuit. This is particularly true for soft and rigid PCBs.
3. Support for multiple boards
PCB panel design also enables different board types to be produced as one design. This way, you can make a healthy PCB with one board type and a bit of another.
4. Circuit board extensions
Some printed circuit boards (PCBs) need to be extended or enlarged in size for a number of reasons including to accommodate more components and to reach the manufacturer's recommended size.
If this is the case, using a board that is smaller in nature is not an option. This is why supporting the integration of several board types into a single panel is a good way to expand an otherwise smaller PCB.
5. Defect prevention
Defects or problems in the manufacturing process can prevent the success of many boards. This is why the use of PCB panel designs can come in handy when aiming to prevent or reduce overall defects.
This works best when you initially consider using smaller PCBs. Due to the limited size, in terms of space, you may find that the board does not meet the requirements for aligning holes, targets and a range of other design for manufacturability (DFM) requirements.
By panelising the smaller PCB, you create access so that these requirements and manufacturing steps fit on the same board.
