NeoDen N10P User Guide: Essential Startup And Warm-Up Procedures For Beginners

Dec 26, 2025

Introduction

In today's rapidly evolving electronics manufacturing industry, pick and place machines have become indispensable core tools for R&D, prototyping, and small-to-medium batch production. Among NeoDen's extensive product lineup, the N10P high speed pick and place machine stands out-combining high performance, reliability, and intelligent operation. It is specifically designed for R&D labs, maker spaces, and medium-to-large SMT assembly lines.

This guide is tailored for new N10P users, providing step-by-step instructions for pre-power-up preparation, safe startup, initialization, and warm-up procedures. It ensures you get it right from the very first step, laying a solid foundation for efficient and precise placement production.

I. Understanding NeoDen and the NeoDen N10P

NeoDen operates a modern production facility spanning over 27,000 square meters, employs more than 25 professional R&D engineers, and holds over 70 national patents. Its product line is widely adopted across LED, communications, automotive electronics, and consumer electronics sectors.

Core advantages of the NeoDen N10P include

  • High-speed multi-head placement: Supports simultaneous operation of 8 placement heads for significantly enhanced efficiency.
  • High-precision vision system: Equipped with left/right mark cameras, flying camera, and IC camera for high-accuracy placement.
  • Complete SMT solution: NeoDen provides one-stop equipment support from feeders and conveyors to reflow ovens.
  • User-friendly software: Graphical interface, Excel programming support, USB import/export-enabling quick mastery even for beginners.

However, even the best equipment requires proper startup procedures. Next, we move into the practical operation phase.

II. Mandatory Pre-Power-Up: Three Critical Physical Preparations

According to the N10P User Manual and NeoDen's official recommendations, the following three checks must be completed before initial power-up or reactivation after transportation. Failure to do so may cause operational abnormalities or even mechanical damage.

1. Remove Transport Retaining Fixtures

To prevent component movement during shipping, auxiliary retaining straps and screws are installed at the following locations (refer to Manual Figures A and B):

  • Mounting head crossbeam area
  • Track width adjustment mechanism

Important: Manually remove all straps and retaining screws before powering on. Failure to do so may cause X/Y-axis jamming or motor overload.

2. Remove Rust-Prevention Protective Film

To prevent moisture and rust, transparent protective film is applied to the following critical moving components (Figures C-E):

  • Left/right Y-axis linear rails and lead screws
  • Rail width adjustment lead screw
  • X-axis lead screw and linear rail

Special Note: Failure to remove this film will obstruct linear rail movement, causing positioning errors or motor alarms.

3. Inspect Environment and Air Supply

The N10P has specific operational environment requirements:

  • Temperature: 20°C to 26°C (recommended maximum 30°C)
  • Humidity: 45% to 70% RH
  • Cleanliness: Free of dust and corrosive gases
  • Air Supply Pressure: ≥ 0.6 MPa, Flow Rate ≥ 37 L/min. Recommended to use an air tank with 70L capacity or larger (to ensure stable air pressure)

III. Correct Startup Procedure: From Power-On to Software Initialization

After completing physical preparations, the system can be safely powered on. The standard operating procedure is as follows:

Step 1: Turn on the Main Power Switch

  • Flip the power switch on the rear panel to initiate self-test.
  • The display boots into the operating system (Linux-based with custom GUI).

Step 2: Enter the Main Software Interface

  • Upon successful self-test, the system automatically displays the **File List interface**.
  • If error prompts appear (e.g., "Not Returned to Zero," "Probe Head Unsafe"), do not proceed. Return to check the setup.

Step 3: Execute Initialization

Click "Applications" in the top menu bar → Perform the following two initializations:

Head Initialization

  • Function: Returns all 8 placement heads to Z-axis zero and confirms nozzle safety status.
  • After execution, the heads automatically move to the "rest position."

XY Initialization

  • Function: Returns X/Y axes to origin and calibrates magnetic scale position.
  • Upon success, the screen displays "XY axes initialized" and coordinates reset to zero.

Note: Skipping initialization may cause severe issues such as "coordinate offset" or "head collision" during subsequent warm-up or placement!

IV. Must-Read for Beginners: Why Must the N10P "Warm Up"? How to Operate It?

What is "Machine Warm-Up"?

Warm-up refers to running the device's servo motors, guide rails, and control system under no load for approximately 10 minutes to achieve thermal equilibrium across all components. Due to metal's thermal expansion and contraction, operating at high speeds directly from a cold state can cause cumulative positioning errors, compromising ±0.025mm precision placement.

How to Perform Warm-up?

1. In the "Application" menu, select "Machine Warm-up".

2. Select the operating speed (recommended: "Medium Speed").

3. Click "Start" to automatically run the XY axes in reciprocating motion for 10 minutes.

4. The process will stop automatically after 10 minutes, or manually click "Stop".

Recommendation: Perform warm-up before first use each day, during significant temperature fluctuations (e.g., winter mornings), or after equipment has been idle for over 2 hours!

V. Conclusion

1. Disassemble: Remove shipping fixtures and protective films

2. Inspect: Check air supply, environment, and emergency stop switch

3. Initialize: Pick-up head + Dual XY coordinate initialization

4. Warm-up: Run for 10 minutes to stabilize the system

After completing these steps, your N10P is ready for optimal operation. Proceed to import PCB files, configure feeders, and perform first-board placement testing.
