In the electronics manufacturing industry, PCBA processing is a key link to ensure the performance and quality of electronic products. As moisture has a serious impact on electronic components and PCBA boards, moisture-proof storage methods are particularly important.
I. The impact of moisture on PCBA
1. Solder joint quality
Moisture can lead to a decline in solder joint quality. Moisture into the solder paste, will produce bubbles and voids in the welding, affecting the mechanical strength and electrical properties of the solder joints.
2. Component failure
Many electronic components are sensitive to moisture, and moisture absorption may lead to component failure. For example, BGA (Ball Grid Array) packaged chips are prone to cracks when reflow oven soldering after absorbing moisture.
3. PCB deformation
Moisture can cause the PCB board to absorb moisture and expansion, which in turn causes deformation, affecting the assembly accuracy and product reliability.
II. PCBA processing moisture storage methods
1. Drying box storage
1.1 Constant temperature and humidity dry box
PCBA stored in a constant temperature and humidity drying box, you can effectively control the environmental humidity, to avoid the impact of moisture on PCBA. The humidity inside the drying box should be controlled below 10%, and the temperature is generally maintained between 20℃ and 25℃.
1.2 Low humidity drying box
Low-humidity drying box is a specialized equipment for storing electronic components and PCBA, which can control the humidity inside the box in a very low range (generally below 5%). This type of drying box is particularly suitable for long-term storage of PCBAs that require a high degree of moisture protection.
2. Vacuum Packaging
The PCBA will be vacuum-packed with moisture-proof bags, which can effectively isolate the moisture in the air. Moisture-proof bags are usually made of multi-layer materials with excellent barrier properties. Before vacuum packaging, can be placed in the bag desiccant to further adsorption of residual moisture.
3. Use of Desiccant
3.1 Type of desiccant
Commonly used desiccants include silica gel desiccant, molecular sieve desiccant and montmorillonite desiccant. Silica gel desiccant has good moisture-absorbing property and low price, and it is the most commonly used type of desiccant.
3.2 Placement of desiccant
In the PCBA storage environment placed in a sufficient amount of desiccant, can effectively adsorb moisture in the air. Desiccant should be replaced regularly to maintain its moisture absorption effect.
4. Environmental control
4.1 Storage environment
The storage environment of PCBA should be kept clean, dry and well ventilated to avoid direct sunlight and moisture intrusion. The temperature and humidity in the storage room should be monitored and controlled regularly, and the humidity is generally kept below 60%.
4.2 Air Purification
The use of air purification equipment in the storage environment can reduce moisture and pollutants in the air and further protect PCBA from moisture and corrosion.
