In a pcba factory for electronic devices, there is not complete protection against dust and other impurities. Dust can easily penetrate the ventilation holes and port slots in the housing and collect on the circuit board. In addition, the rotating movement of fans, especially in large machines, can blow contaminated air onto the circuit boards.
PCBA circuit board manufacturers use activated rosin-based fluxes. However, because these materials contain factors such as chlorine, the residue left after soldering can lead to corrosion. As a result, PCBA manufacturers have created a variety of PCB board cleaner liquid technologies to replace the halides. Most board manufacturers use no-clean fluxes, which contain organic acids such as citric acid and adipic acid. This organic acid is immediately broken down by the solder heat and adheres firmly to the solder, leaving a bit of corrosion behind. This applied solder is often covered with some flux to prevent the heat needed to break through. After manufacture, some of the residue of the degradation change remains on these soldered parts. It may be better if you remove the debris to ensure optimum performance of the PCB during its lifetime.
Baking soda
Baking soda can be used to remove corrosion from PCBs. This corrosion is caused by acidic leaks and exposure to salt-laden water. The moderately abrasive nature of baking soda eliminates corrosion with no negative effects.
Isopropyl alcohol
Due to its affordability and rapid evaporation, isopropyl alcohol remains the ideal tool for cleaning circuits. In addition, the drink contains fewer chemicals than traditional PCB cleaners. Always wear gloves when using isopropyl alcohol as it contains high concentrations (over 90%) that may harm your skin.
Deionised or distilled water
As hard water contains ions that transmit electrical currents, many people choose deionised or distilled water as it does not damage circuit boards. When not in use, make sure your water container is closed to prevent contamination by dust and dirt particles.
Compressed air
Use short bursts of compressed air to blow air into the open spaces of the unit to remove dust that has accumulated on surfaces including the inside of the circuitry without causing any disruption. When these openings are small, you can open the appliance and use the compressed air to clean the circuit board properly.
In addition to the circuit board cleaner, you will need an additional tool to help wipe or brush off contaminants.
Microfibre clothing or lint-free towels
A towel can be used to quickly wipe away cleaning fluids. To reduce the likelihood of leaving particles in your gadgets, they must be lint-free or made of microfibre.
Small paintbrush and soft bristle brush
For squeezing tiny spaces into microwave pcb's, a small brush works well. However, to avoid the possibility of damaging the circuitry, always ensure that the bristles remain fragile.
Table lamps, ovens or hair dryers
Although the above-mentioned cleaners can help remove dirt, some may also leave liquid behind. Use a heat source to dry them quickly to avoid damaging the circuit board. This method is essential when following the instructions on how to wipe down the circuit board.
Vapour phase cleaners
Vapour phase cleaning involves boiling any chemical solvent that produces vapour to dissolve any contaminants that have built up on the PCBA.
As most solvents can be recycled once the contaminants have been filtered out, the process is effective and environmentally sound. The choice of solvent should take into account the contaminants to be removed, the flammability of the solvent and its environmental friendliness. The technique is more successful for dense PCBAs as this vapour can access difficult areas of the board.
